Your files

Your video, your audio and your subtitles are never uploaded. They are opened by the page running in your browser, processed on your own device, and saved back to your own disk. There is no server on this site that receives media files, and no account that they could be attached to.

Subtitles you are working on are kept in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) so that an accidental refresh does not lose your work. That data stays in your browser, is not readable by this site's servers, and can be removed at any time with the "Start over" button or by clearing site data in your browser.

What is downloaded

The speech recognition model is downloaded once, from a public model host, and then cached by your browser. That request tells the host that someone downloaded a model file; it contains nothing about you, your video, or what you are transcribing.

Analytics

The site counts page views and how often the editor is actually used, so that I can tell whether a page is working. This is a plain counter on this domain: it records the date, the page, and a one-way hash that lets one visit be told apart from another on the same day. It does not store your IP address or your full user agent, and the hash cannot be reversed.

Google Analytics may also be enabled on this site. It sets cookies and is subject to Google's own privacy policy.

Advertising

This site is supported by advertising and uses Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and you can opt out of personalised advertising through Google's Ads Settings. Visitors in regions covered by GDPR or similar laws are shown a consent message before any advertising cookie is set, and declining is a real option that is honoured.

Advertising is the only thing that pays for this site, and it is deliberately kept to positions below the editor rather than around it.

Messages you send

If you use the contact form, what you write is stored so that I can read and act on it, together with the page you were on and the date. An email address is optional and is only used to reply to you. Nothing you send is sold, shared or used for advertising.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the effective date at the top of this page changes with it and the change is recorded on the changelog. Questions about any of the above: hello@videosubtitleeditor.com.
